About Mirrin
Mirrin de Greeff is a Dutch textile artist specializing in the art of felting. She focuses primarily on wool, and in combination with other natural fibers she creates captivating, tactile artworks. The acoustic properties of wool allow her to blend form and function into pieces that blur the boundaries between art and design.
Before she started her career as a textile artist, she studied at a fashion academy, where she acquired a deep knowledge and understanding of textiles.
When she later discovered felting, she became fascinated by how loose wool fibers could be transformed into felt, and she dedicated herself to mastering this ancient craft.
Her work distinguishes itself by several returning elements found in her pieces: organic shapes, balance, contrast and the deliberate use of negative space. She seeks a natural balance in every artwork she creates, considering a piece truly finished only when this harmony is achieved.
Her artworks have been exhibited across Europe and are celebrated for their blend of traditional techniques with a contemporary aesthetic.
About felting
Felting is an ancient textile craft that transforms delicate, loose wool fibers into a thick, sturdy, non-woven fabric.
Using only water, soap, and the artist's hands, the process involves carefully layering and working the fibers until they become fused together. This seemingly simple technique is physically demanding and a gradual transformation, requiring patience, skill, and a deep understanding of the wool's properties to achieve the desired textures and forms. The repetitive motions, like rolling a piece of felt hundreds of times to transform loose fibers into a firm fabric, instill a sense of mindfulness and presence.
The meticulousness and dedication involved in this process are reflected in the quality of Mirrin's artworks. Each one of her pieces is a testament to the mastery of her craft and her unique artistic vision.
